AN INTERVIEW WITH THE FOUNDER

 

How are you currently ordering dental supplies?

Currently, I have given one of the assistants in my office the responsibility of ordering supplies. I have helped organize this aspect of her job by creating Excel spreadsheets to input inventory data. However, it has been extremely difficult for her to care for patients, order supplies and compare prices to ensure that we receive a fair price for the products that we use. For this reason, I came up with the idea for Sowingo.com.

Why do you think no one has thought of this idea?

The reason that I believe other dental professionals have not yet come up with this sort of a product is the simple fact that we are so busy in our private practices that it is extremely difficult to take the time to organize and undertake a project of this breadth.  Not only does this project require a significant amount of time, but there is also a large cost associated with it. As a professional, it is difficult to justify taking the time and spending the money to put into a side project. However, I felt that the current inventory management system was a significant problem that dentists are facing on a daily basis. As a result, I have come up with a strategy that will hopefully benefit practitioners across the country.

How did you come up with the idea of Sowingo?

I came up with the idea for Sowingo.com as a result of the frustrations I’ve been dealing with over the last 12-13 years of private practice. Ordering, reordering, and managing dental supplies have always been difficult aspects of practice, not only for me but also for my staff. Both my staff and I focus the majority of our time in the office on patient care.

How will Sowingo benefit dentists?

Sowingo.com will provide dental professionals with a tremendous amount of information in regards to dental supplies. The inventory management software will hopefully alleviate a major headache of operating a dental practice. The product is really designed to allow dentists to focus more time and energy on patient care.

Will we be seeing a mobile platform in the future?

We are actually launching a mobile feature which will be available shortly after the product itself is launched. Similar to the experiences at my practice, most practitioners have supplies scattered throughout their office in multiple closets and multiple storage units. With the mobility of an application on a portable device, dentists will be able to move between their storage closets while having their ordering and supply information at the palm of their hands. The mobile app will make the features of Sowingo.com extremely versatile and useful.

When are you launching Sowingo.com?

We are launching Sowingo.com in Q1 2014! Dentists are currently beta testing the product and have been giving positive feedback.
